Forest ecosystems face significant pressure from agricultural and livestock expansion, as well as the recurrence of forest fires. In response to this problem, this study focused on identifying optimal species for use as facilitator plants in ecological restoration strategies. To this end, the biogeographic variability of ten species in the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt and the Sierra Madre Oriental was analyzed using QGIS 3.32 software. The most predominant species with the greatest facilitator potential were B. cordata, T. stans, D. viscosa, C. canadensis, and C. lusitanica. These species exhibit a wide altitudinal distribution (from 150 to 3800 meters above sea level) and a remarkable tolerance to a broad range of annual rainfall (between 189 and 2700 mm). The selected species possess key ecological characteristics that make them ideal candidates for the restoration of degraded ecosystems.
