Para esto se usó una metodología cualitativa donde se entrevistó a 12 jóvenes con distintos niveles de ruralidad de la región de O&#8217;Higgins, en Chile. Los resultados muestran que todos los estudiantes reportaron haber tenido altas expectativas de entrar a la universidad. Los de zonas rurales recibieron mayor apoyo por parte de sus establecimientos escolares; sin embargo, perciben menor calidad en su enseñanza. Además, la distancia geográfica emergió como uno de los principales factores que perjudica el acceso a la educación superior.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo Este estudo tem como objetivo compreender como os contextos rurais condicionam o acesso à universidade na perspectiva dos estudantes que conseguiram acessá-la. Para isso, foi utilizada uma metodologia qualitativa onde foram entrevistados 12 jovens com diferentes níveis de ruralidade da Região de O&#8217;Higgins, no Chile. Os resultados mostram que todos os estudantes relataram ter altas expectativas de ingresso na universidade. Os mais rurais receberam maior apoio de suas escolas; no entanto, percebem menor qualidade de ensino. Além disso, a distância geográfica surgiu como um dos principais fatores que prejudicam o acesso ao ensino superior.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This study aims to understand how rural contexts condition access to university from the perspective of students who managed to access it. A qualitative methodology was employed to conduct interviews with 12 young people from different rural backgrounds in the O&#8217;Higgins region of Chile. The results show that all students reported having high expectations of entering university. Students with the highest levels of rurality received greater support from their schools, but perceived lower quality in their education. In addition, geographic distance emerged as one of the main factors that hinder access to higher education.]]></p></abstract>
