<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0188-88972021000300221&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S0188-88972021000300221&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.mx/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S0188-88972021000300221&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN  Antecedentes: La comprensión del mecanismo de toxicidad del arsénico se ha visto obstaculizada por factores biológicos, químicos, incluida la relación dosis respuesta, la especificidad y sensibilidad de las especies utilizadas en bioensayos de los estudios toxicológicos para comprender su toxicodinámica.  Objetivo:  El propósito del presente estudio fue evaluar el efecto embriotóxico, teratogénico y genotóxico ocasionados por la exposición a arsénico, a través del análisis de frecuencia de malformaciones y micronúcleos en eritrocitos de sangre periférica en pez cebra.  Métodos:  De manera preliminar, se calculó la curva de toxicidad del arsénico en embriones de pez cebra a partir de exponerlos a concentraciones de entre 0.0031 a 0.05 mg L-1 de arsenito de sodio (NaAsO2), durante 72 horas para determinar la concentración letal media (CL50) para la prueba de embriotoxicidad y teratogénesis. Para la prueba de genotoxicidad, se realizó previamente el cálculo de la curva de toxicidad con peces cebra adultos que fueron expuestos a concentraciones de entre 0.035 a 0.044 mg L-1 durante 48 horas con la finalidad de establecer la CL50.  Resultados:  Se demostró que el efecto del arsenito de sodio fue estadísticamente positivo para las pruebas de embriotoxicidad y teratogénesis a las concentraciones evaluadas. La exposición al arsenito de sodio ocasionó desarrollo embrionario anormal en cada una de las concentraciones de prueba, además de presentarse malformaciones. Y un incremento en la frecuencia de eritrocitos micronucleados estadísticamente significativa de 0.035, evidenciándose el daño genotóxico del arsénico.  Conclusiones:  Este estudio, demostró que la inducción de anomalías nucleares en los eritrocitos, así como las anomalías en el desarrollo embrionario, son indicadores extremadamente sensibles en el estudio de efectos toxicológicos, y sugieren que el potencial de riesgo de este metaloide debe ser abordado en futuras investigaciones.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Background: Understanding the toxicity mechanism of arsenic has been hampered by biological, chemical factors, including the dose response ratio, the specificity and sensitivity of species used in bioassays from toxicological studies to understand their toxicodynamics.  Goals: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the embryotoxic, teratogenic and genotoxic effect caused by exposure to arsenic, through the frequency analysis of malformations and micronuclei in peripheral blood erythrocytes in zebrafish.  Methods: The toxicity curve of arsenic in zebrafish embryos was calculated from exposure to concentrations between 0.0031 and 0.05 mg L-1 of sodium arsenite (NaAsO2) for 72 hours to determine the mean lethal concentration (LC50) for the embryotoxicity and teratogenesis test. For the genotoxicity test, the calculation of the toxicity curve with adult zebrafish that were exposed to concentrations between 0.035 and 0.044 mg L-1 for 48 hours was previously performed in order to establish LC50.  Results: The effect of sodium arsenite was shown to be statistically positive for embryotoxicity and teratogenesis tests at the evaluated concentrations. Exposure to sodium arsenite resulted in abnormal embryonic development at each of the test concentrations, in addition to malformations. And a statistically significant increase in the frequency of micronucleated erythrocytes of 0.035, showing genotoxic damage of arsenic.  Conclusions: This study showed that the induction of nuclear abnormalities in erythrocytes, as well as abnormalities in embryonic development, are extremely sensitive indicators in the study of toxicological effects, and suggest that the risk potential of this metalloid should be tested in future research.]]></p></abstract>
